My 18-week old kitten has never eaten when I am not home.
She eats almost all wet food. I leave dry food down at all times to snack on in between 4 feedings per day of wet. I've tried 4 dry brands so far; she won't eat more than a little snack once or twice a day (max less than 2 tbsp/day). I've tried Purina Kitten Chow (1st I bought before I researched foods), Wellness Core Kitten, Blue Wilderness Kitten and Evo. I mix them, because I keep buying new brands and they're expensive; she'll pick out all the Purina.
When I'm gone at work, a couple times per week, 8:30-3, I leave a frozen puck of wet food on an ice pack. It thaws in 5 hrs. She never touches it, and usually won't eat it when I get home, either. I have to give her new food. She won't eat the dry food when I'm gone, either.
Today we were gone from 9:30 am to 6 pm. She didn't eat the whole time. When I got home, and pointed out her wet food to her, she ate maybe half.
It's like she associates me with her food, and won't look for it when I'm not there. Either that, or she realizes the food is frozen, then never goes back to check and see that it's thawed?
What to do? Will she figure this out eventually? We've had her since 9 weeks old. In April, I start working 5 days/week, and don't want her skipping a feeding every day. [emoji]128533[/emoji]
Any ideas for a good dry food she might *like*? I know wet food is the best; I don't plan for dry to be anything other than a supplement and for her to eat when I'm not home, but I need her to be willing to eat it those times.
