Hello! My six-month old kitten, Sophie, has been having an issue lately. (Warning: Gross) Her anus has been very red and looks a bit swollen. I took her to the vet last month when I noticed it the first time, and one of her anal glands was clogged. She had just been spayed before that happened, and the vet had said she was most likely a bit constipated from the anesthesia from the spay, and to give her more wet food and some Laxatone. At the time, the vet also said it looked a little red, but not outside of normality, and that it wasn't prolapsed or anything.
It's been a bit over a month and it hasn't gotten any better. Her bottom looks very red now, and seems to be worse before she goes poo. She's also been getting litter and bits of poo stuck to her bottom, and when I try to clean it off with a warm, damp rag, she starts yelping like it hurts her. Today, I noticed there was some yellowish mucus when I tried cleaning her bottom.
I do have a vet appointment scheduled tomorrow for her to be retested for FIV, since she tested positive as a baby, and I plan to bring it up to the vet and have them look at it again, but I wanted to know if anybody had any advice or has gone through anything similar. Could it be her anal glands again, or something else?
Some other information: She eats half a cup of Chicken Soup dry kitten food a day, because I'm gone at school or work a lot, and she gets fed wet food (usually grain-free) in the mornings and evenings. (Usually 1/4-1/3 of a 3 oz can per sitting.) Her poo has mostly been normal, though it looks darker than it used to. She also drinks plenty of water, and I usually add some to her food anyways. One other thing, I'm not sure if this matters, but there's been a few times where I've cleaned her litter box, and I've seen strands of my own hair in her poo. She eats and drinks and has been playing normally the entire time.
Thank you for any advice or ideas!
