Hello! We adopted a new kitten from our local shelter on Saturday. Our biggest challenges so far:

1. Helping our resident cat, a six year old male, feel comfortable.

2. Helping our new kitten stop crying. She is attached at the hip to us and cries often, especially at night, even though she is in my bedroom.

Our new kitten was surrendered to the shelter on Thursday. The previous owner said she was allergic. That is all we know about her past (that and she was 1 of 3 brought in). I assume her crying (and belly nursing) are a result of being weaned to early.

Any tips appreciated!

Well, rubysmama rubysmama gave you all of the information I was going to give you, so I'll just add that the kitten is probably lonely, and is in a strange place. She will settle down with time and a lot of patience on your part. The bad news is that you will probably have to deal with crying for a bit longer. The good news is that she's a kitten, not a baby, so we're talking days, not months!
