Hello, all you cat lovers! This is my first post here, so I will preface it briefly by saying that I adopted a beautiful, docile pregnant stray in December. Her 4 babies are now 9 weeks old, and they're all such little joys to have. They've all been to the vet, including mommy cat, and were given their shots. We had to wait it out until just a few days ago, as some of the kittens weren't fully weaned. The mom cat is scheduled to be spayed next week.
2 of the 4 kittens are eating kitten kibble and canned food with much enthusiasm. The other 2, however, refuse to do anything with the regular kitten food except scratch wildly around the plates like they're trying to bury it. I grew increasingly concerned that they wouldn't eat at all until, about a week ago, both of the picky kitties practically attacked my husband and me as we ate a grocery store prepared rotisserie chicken for dinner. Finally, they had some interest in food. They devoured the pieces we tore up for them. Later, I tried to tempt them with chicken flavored cat kibble and Fancy Feast. They weren't having it. Both extended their little arms and started, again, scratching wildly around the plates.
Completely baffled, I headed out to the store to find a kitten food that looked more like real chicken than some mashed up brown colored pate. I found Rachel Ray's Nutrish line, and purchased the "Chicken Purrcata". The two picky eaters dove right into it, and between them, devoured it all. I couldn't believe it - they were finally eating cat food.
The problem still remains, though - they refuse the kibble or any other kind of kitten or cat food. They scratch and scratch around it like it belongs in the litter box. Has anybody else out there experienced such neurotic tendencies in their kittens or cats, and if so, did they ever grow out of it? I have concluded that it must simply be the color of the food they don't like, so I am now on the hunt for a white colored kitten kibble. Does anyone have any brand suggestions?
