We have a new kitten (about 6 months old) that doesn't jump up on things. He'll climb up (IE. bed, couch) instead of jumping up. I guess we should be thankful but my wife is concerned. He seems to walk and run, go up and down stairs, jump down from things, without any problem. Our vet says his legs appear to be ok and he's probably just afraid to jump. We've had other kittens and I'm pretty sure they were jumping at that age. Has anyone experienced or heard of this? Do you think there is something wrong?

I also had a kitty that would climb instead of jump. If you want to train the kitten to jump up onto things I would suggest you use a lazer pointer to get her running around and then shine it up onto the couch or a chair.

I would just be thankful he doesn't jump, as long as he is healthy. I have had cats who were fearless in their jumping and caused an incredible amount of damage in the process, sometimes also hurting themselves.
