I've been having a hard time with the holidays as it is. Dad getting married this year brought back a lot of the pain of Mom's passing because it really made it final. I know that sounds strange, I obviously knew she was gone before he got married again, but...well, that's just what happened for both my sister and I.
I came back to work after Christmas to find out that one of my co-workers' father died suddenly on Christmas Day.
Tiffany hasn't been back to work yet, and won't return until Friday.
Then on Thursday, we find out that another of our co-workers has also suffered a great family loss. His youngest grandson, age 19, killed himself on the 27th. This is adding to that family's pain as this boy's brother and sister were both killed in an SUV/motorcycle accident (they were on the motorcycle) less than 2 years ago.
I know this isn't personal, but being a Broncos fan for as long as I can remember, it's still difficult to grasp. I'm sure you've all heard about Darrent Williams, the Broncos cornerback who was shot and killed in their limosine after leaving a NYE party. He was only 24, and really a rising star in football.
Now tonight, I get an email from my father that our neighbor, Ron, died last night. These people have been our neighbors for as long as we (Dad) lived in that house - over 30 years. I've always known Ron and Harriet, they have kids the same age as my sister and I. Jeff and I were in the same class. Ron just retired in September, and he told Dad that he had some pain in his back. Harriet told Dad just before Christmas that Ron had lung cancer that had spread to his back and brain.
It's just so much sadness, so much death. So many good people's lives cut short, and many more good people in mourning. It's just overwhelming.
Can I just ask for some of those wonderful TCS vibes for everyone affected by these passings? For Tiffany, who is having to go through her father's personal affects much too soon after his passing. For Bob and his family who lost another grandchild, and his family who lost another child, and in the most tragic and seemingly preventable way. For Darrent William's family and friends, for whom he was so much more than a football player. For Harriet, Debra, Gerry and Jeff for the loss of a husband and father. And for all of those around them who are also affected by the passing of these people.
