Yes, any news on this sweet orangie?
Frostbite... poor baby!!! Can any rescues in the area help you??Originally Posted by zohdee
Is there some agency that can help with vet bills?
I have to buy a bigger carrier for him. There is no way he could fit comfortably in the carriers I have..he is twice the size of my kitties.
I was able to get close to him tonight thanks to cat treats. Here is a pic of his ear.
I also think he has some other problems with his ears because he let me look in one of them and there were some bloody sores.
Sounds like you are right around the corner from me. No rescue sites around here that i know of help with vet bills. Are you in Geauga County? Some other surrounding counties have TNR programs and the mobile pet fix... He most likely sleeps all day and comes out at night to eat and hunt for females and his ears are probably just torn up and blood crusted from fighting with other cats..Originally Posted by zohdee
Now I know why he hissed and bit at me.
Do rescue sites help out with cost if you are going to adopt the kitty? I imagine this one will need alot of medical attention, more than I can afford right now. I can certainly do a neuter but the ears...
I do wonder why he only comes around at night.
They look frost-bitten. The black on there is tell-tale.Originally Posted by ms cat love

Yea but black parts just dont come off if its frostbite. dried blood comes off.Originally Posted by AddieBee

If untreated, the 3rd & 4th degree frostbitten areas will fall off:Originally Posted by ms cat love

In fact - every link I'm reading says the blackened skin from frostbite will fall off if untreated for some time.Originally Posted by Wikipedia
If the area freezes further, deep frostbite occurs. The muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and nerves will all freeze. The skin is hard, feels waxy, and use of the area is lost temporarily, and in severe cases, permanently. The deep frostbite results in areas of purplish blisters which turn black and which are generally blood-filled. Nerve damage in the area can result in a loss of feeling. This extreme frostbite may result in fingers and toes being amputated if the area becomes infected with gangrene. If the frostbite has gone on untreated they may fall off.
The worst case i ever saw was a total black ear and yes it did fall off.. the pic does not look like a total case of frostbite that needs immediate vet care. I would be more worried about getting the cat fixed and homed. tom cats always get their ears torn up.... peroxide (very carefully) is what i use...Originally Posted by LDG

The problem is the frostbitten areas that aren't blackened and falling off.
I was just addressing this. The picture looks like frostbite, not scabs.Originally Posted by ms cat love

You must have missed what the op said > It looks like the black parts of his ears have been taken off so I am hoping his "owners" took him to the vet.Originally Posted by LDG
