It seems to me it isn't healthy to wager in elections

Puerto Rico... land of rice and beans.
I found this out in a little trivia book of Puerto Rican elections:

Just before the 1976 elections, a doctor from the town of Juncos wagered US $10,000.00 (1976 dollars) that Rafael Hernández Colón of the Popular Democratic Party would be reelected as governor of Puerto Rico.

Carlos Romero Barceló of the New Progressive Party won that election by a landslide.

The next morning the man was found in his home... dead of a massive heart attack.

Hmm.... worthy of an urban legend... if it wasn't that my mom remembered when it happened! (She was raised in Juncos).

Moral: Do not wage a lot of money these elections... it isn't good for your heart if you lose!
