So we adopted a long haired kitten middle of June. She was about 9-10 weeks. Now at about 15 weeks her fur has changed a lot. Is it the summer heat? Or is it just an awkward stage because she’s gotten so lanky recently? I’ve included a bunch of photos from when we got her till now. I know short hair kittens can be a little fluffy but I wouldn’t think as fluffy as she was when we got her. Also will include a picture of the tufts on her back feet. These are at 9-10 weeks:

Yes, her tail still has long fur so she's genetically a longhair. But I think she'll have what is informally referred to as "medium" fur, and will look almost shorthaired in the summers and be very very fluffy in the winters.

She is longhair for sure, just not as long as some and called medium by some as Willow said. Some Lh cats can shed a lot in summer too and appear shorter haired. Some lh breeds have very fluffy tails and shorter body fur. She is gorgeous❤

That’s what I was thinking was the case. It just seemed like such a drastic change so quickly. Our cat before her was a medium hair and I think she did something similar in the summer when she was younger but then her hair more stayed long in her later years.

That’s what we were thinking too. And thank you! We are in love with her and are really hoping she keeps the longer fur because she reminds us so much of our cat who passed away in March.

Yes she's a longhair. All longhair kittens go through short hair phases. They don't get their full poof until 3-4 years old. I have 3 longhairs 2 years old and 1 year old with different fur types. Fynn has a longer mane, thinner tail. His fur is super soft and very prone to matting. Jethro has a smaller mane, whispy tail and thicker body fur. He has more coarse fur and more guard hairs. He also has a very long tuft of fur between his legs. Ceriah is turning 2 this year and getting fluffier. She has a very thick furry tail. I expect her to be the fluffiest.
