Hello,

We bought Charley 3 years ago with out papers and was assured she was a Bengal. We were new to the breed and have always just assumed she was. After taking her to the Vet we were told that he thought she was just a tabby and not a Bengal!! Could the Vet be wrong?

The vet could be wrong.  Did you buy her from a reputable breeder as a pet quality kitten, without papers?  (Breeders often sell pet-quality kittens without papers to discourage backyard breeding.)  If so, I would have no doubt that she is a pure Bengal.  The show quality and breeding quality Bengals have flashier rosettes, and since Bengals were developed by cross--breeding with domestic cats, many of them tabbies, there are often kittens who more resemble the domestic side of the line than the wild cat side.  Your cat certainly has the Bengal body type and she does have spots, just not fancy rosetted ones.  However, if you bought her off Craig's list from someone who is not a reputable breeder, she may just be a Bengal mix or a spotted tabby domestic cat who happens to be built rather like a Bengal.  She is your cat and you love her, so it shouldn't matter, she will still be Queen of your house!

Here is a link to a purebred Bengal who looks rather like your cat, except that she is more orange.
