Hi there,

I bought this cat from a BYB breeder a couple of month ago and I was told that both his parents were silver bengals.

They didn’t gave me any kind of pedigree and the price was quite low (maybe 1/3 - 1/4 of a normal bengal price).

I was quite skeptical but I decided to get it anyway cause he looked so cute :)
Now it’s a bit more than 2 months that he’s with me, and I’m so happy I bought it, no matter the breed.

Is it the same cat on all pics?

The kitten looks as a pet quality bengal, but the adult on these first pics, I would say grandson or possibly a son. "There is something, but it has detoriated by this generation"

IF its the same cat, its probably a son.
I have heard from a forumite the other day, mixes out from bengals tend to detoriate with age.

Yes same cat, he is growing so fast!
I must say that the behavior perfectly recall a bengal cat: loves the water, extremely agitated but also cuddly, affectionate and he follows me everywhere like a little puppy

Thanks for your response, you are probably right; I found a foto of the mother anyway but no pic of the father

He’s so handsome! He definitely could have some Bengal in him, since I can see hints of rosettes. Mom has even more prominent rosetted markings.

The brown rosetted cat is his mom? But the breeder said both his parents were silvers?

Yes she’s the mom. No the breeder said that the parents were both bengals. But looking at the kittens’ color I figured that the father would be a silver Bengal (if a Bengal)

If you can report the backyard breeder, please do. It's a terrible life for the breeding cats.

Your kitten is adorable. Have you had him vetted yet?

talkingpeanut talkingpeanut , why do you say that the breeder should be reported and that it's a terrible life for the breeding cats? I'm not a fan of backyard breeders, but on the other hand I'm not seeing evidence here that the cats are being mistreated.

It sounds to me like the OP had some concerns about the care of the animals. It also sounds like the breeder may be misrepresenting their cats.

I'm not a fan of breeding in general, but professional and ethical breeders (hopefully) take great care to manage number of litters, space between litters, and retire the cats at the appropriate age. None of these things come to mind for backyard breeding.

No absolutely, they were not mistreated! Maybe I expressed myself in a wrong way: It wasn’t a backyard breeder but an hobby breeder

Very cute cat! He's definitely got bengal heritage, but as others have said he isn't show quality. He looks like the product of a couple generations of breeding pet-quality bengals.

I don't know about the possibility of him having snow bengal ancestry, but I am skeptical since that is a fairly rare type. I find Bengals with ticked coats like yours tend to look more grey. Enjoy your new buddy!
