you would think in my 30+ years of owning cats I would know the answer but calico cats are still mysterious.
I know Calicoes are 99% female however the definition is a cat of 3 or more colours which leads to my question...
Jasper is a 6 year old male orange tabby from appearance sake. He however has black spots all throughout his mouth and sports between 1 and 5 black whiskers at any given time. He also has black spots on his paws. He does not have any patches of fur black in color, so does skin color and whiskers make a calico, or a strange spotty tabby?
Discuss....

But he may be tortie instead! Its essentially the same odd combination, here minus the white.

Red cats are prone to getting "freckles" as they get older. It's not actual genetic coloring, just. . .freckles :D. So, no, that wouldn't make a cat a tortie/calico. He'll probably get even more as he gets older.
