Interesting theory. However, nothing has changed in the CSS files, and these are the files provided by Vbulletin, so I'm not sure it's the cause of delay.Originally Posted by coaster
The server responds with alacrity, but the pages render slowly, especially on long pages. There's a lot of jumping and jerking up and down and back and forth before posts can be read.
And I've got a theory: I just looked at the source for this page, and the CSS has an awful lot of font property declarations, most of them for the same fonts. It's my suspicion that these declarations are slowing things down, at least for me, because I have a huge number of fonts installed, and if the browser is looking for a font file for each of these declarations, it's going to slow it down; even if the font is cached.
It's been doing it for me since around the time of the last software upgrade. Didn't think about it at first, just lived with it. Then this thread reminded me. Maybe it's not my theory; I'm no expert, but something changed. It didn't used to be this way. As one example, the right side of this message editor box I'm looking at as I type ... the border just beyond the smilies outline ... often sticks out beyond the enclosing box until everything else on the page settles down. In my own limited experience with debugging html/css that's a pretty good indicator something isn't right....it's not supposed to do that.Originally Posted by Anne
