Hi there

My cat Scoobie has IBD / perhaps megacolon and perhaps lymphoma. Anyway she is on Lactalose at the moment but I have had to increase the dosage now to get her to go poo (always constipated) as it seems the diseases are getting worse.

Is anyone using cisapride as well as a laxative? Have you noticed a big difference in your cat being able to get poo out once put on Cisapride?

I thought I could import of America but I can't due to customs in NZ so instead of $50.00 it will now cost $500.00 a month.

It says Cisapride moves things along quicker. Has this happened with you?

Thanks
Julie

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I have been in contact, many times, with jwhite jwhite on PM's regarding her issues with her baby.. I do not know if I have been helpful, but I have explained as much as I am able to do.

jwhite jwhite I think this is something you have to decide on your own, as to if you can afford to buy and use this drug. It has been a lifesaver for Artie.
You also need to decide which Vet you are going to see for care, and follow their advice/protocol.

The OP lives in New Zealand, where some of our drugs are not available. There must be some specific drugs which are used in New Zealand and Australia. I am not familiar with them...

Sorry...

I apologize if I sounded harsh. I did not mean to be. I know you have s lot going on; However, we are not vets. We cannot prescribe. We can only tell you about our experiences.

I know you have seen several Vets. You really have to go by their advice-- and not second guess them.

I would suggest that you decide on one Vet, stick to their "routine/advice" And work with them.
By doing this, it will take so much stress off of you. I mean it (((hugs))). I have been there and done that.

It is so hard to have you baby sick and feeling helpless. You would move heaven and earth to help. Sometimes you just have to sit back and allow the specialists to take over.

Also, living in another continent, there are different meds which we do are not familiar with.

Again, I am sorry if I sound harsh. I just want you to relax a bit and Enjoy your baby.

(((Hugs)))

Hi everyone

I just want to say thank you for all your help and your time. You have all been helpful. I know you are not vets and I am sorry for asking so many questions. And I do understand that it varies with all cats and you are only telling me your experiences.

I have decided on a vet. My specialist is away till next week. I have ordered cisapride which will be here hopefully by tomorrow. I am going to do a biopsy next week and xrays to hopefully get to the bottom of of what is exactly wrong with Scoobs.

I am sorry to take up so much of your time - especially you Artiemom. You have been crucial in all the information you have given me. Thank you again. And to furballs - thanks.

I am going to sign off from this site now. I can see I am driving people crazy and lots of others need your help.

I hope all your cats go well.

JW

My cat is on lactulose. His cisapride is on its way so i can't comment yet. All i can say is that the lactulose alone isn't working. I'll let you know how it goes with cisapride once it gets here.

So i tried out cisapride and it didn't work for us. It just seemed to make his poos sticky/tacky which was extremely unpleasant for all. We also ran out of the lactulose but we're currently managing the constipation with miralax and metamucil and plenty of water added into his food. So far this has yielded the best results.
