Hi there. Have seen some similar threads but none with this specifically.

A few weeks ago we adopted a lovely, very playful 9 week old kitten called Ludo. A week later, totally unplanned, we adopted another kitten (same age exactly), called Seph, due to his owners not taking care of him and him being in a bad way.

They are now 14 weeks old this weekend and we are at a point where we'd like to introduce them properly. They were totally separated whilst the sick kitten was on medicine, and since the vet gave us the OK we have been introducing them slowly.

However, despite it being a couple of weeks of slow introductions, Ludo's behaviour when we try and let them play properly seems over the top. He constantly goes for Seph's eyes! And attacks them claws out, bite fixed on his head. If Seph yelps, Ludo does not adjust his behaviour. Being so rough with this eyes worries me.

That said, Seph is not totally afraid of Ludo, but he has been nervous. He runs away only to run, chase and attack him back in a few minutes, but in a much more playful way.

Ludo is also a kitten who suckles on everything. This says to me that he was taken away from his Mum and siblings too early (we took him at 9 weeks but all his siblings were long gone). I've heard that this could also cause a lack of socialisation when it comes to proper play?

My question is how can we train him to play more appropriately? Kittens need and love rough play, but I genuinely fear for Seph's sight and wellbeing!!

Yes. The youngest vets in my area will do this is 6 months unless stray.

I would recommend a mutual toy for them to play with instead of eachother for the time being. I know cats bond by playing but maybe they're not at that stage quite yet.
