I just adopted an 8 year old sheleter cat after my 15 year old boy passed away.  I have him isolated, using feliway in his own room to give him a safe environment.  When the older cats meow outside the door, he hisses and growls. I just had to return a three year old male because he was too aggressive to my two boys. He wanted to be the alpha cat and it wasn't working as he was pinning the smallest one down.

The new cat has been with other cats and a dog for 8 years with no problems. .

I have placed a sock with the scent of the two original guys in the room with my new one.   Any other ideas to facilitate a smoother transition and lessen any aggressive behavior?

Welcome to TCS! :wavey:

One of the biggest things that can work in your favor is time - go slow. I'd keep swapping scents (towels, blankets, etc) between the newbie & existing cats. Give it a few weeks before you let them meet face to face, if need be. Wait until they're ready.
