Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can maybe give me some advice until I can get to a vet. I signed up for this site months ago when I got my first cat Baby who I about 1.5 yrs old now, I'm not sure if I ever introduced myself or him in the new members thread so if I did not I apologize. Anyhow, my vet had suggested that I adopt a kitten as a companion for him since he has been having a lot of anxiety issues especially separation anxiety whenever I leave for work, I had been looking into adopting for a local rescue or shelter when all of the sudden my friend tells me about an older kitten her friend was "fostering" that had been abandoned in a home with no heat, food, or water. The girl couldn't keep her because she already had quite a few cats/kittens in a small place and money was tight. One look at her and I couldn't resist she is an exact twin of my Baby and they even both had the same name(oreo) prior to coming to my home. The only problem was she was never taken to a vet, spayed, vaccinated or any of that. But I figured it was okay because Baby had all his shots and is neutered, and I was told she was only four months old so I had time to make the appointment and get things taken care of. The girl who had her did get her de-wormed so I was not worried about that. Okay now to what I am worried about right now. I have had her with me for a few weeks now and everything has been fine, no signs of illness what so ever. I was going to take her to my regular vet to have her checked up and vaccinated and all that but then I found the luv my pet thing at petco that comes like twice a month on weekends and does the vaccines for like 50$, so I held off. My vet wanted over 200$ just to get her in the office and do distemper and rabbies. At petco they did the 4&1 & rabbies & de-wormed again just to be sure for 50$ and I have to bring her back for boosters. So then Saturday morning all of the sudden she went into heat on me. Thank God Baby is neutered. Neither of them go outside. So I have an appointment to get her spayed on Tuesday. I was planning to get all of this done, but I was not expecting her to go into heat so quickly, it's been hectic with the holidays. I'm assuming she is older than 4 months. I know they can go into heat that early but I still think she is older. Okay I know all of this is irrelevant and I still have not gotten to what is wrong with her I'm just trying to get some background here. Now back to the vaccines, I got her the vaccines on Sunday morning and she was fine most of the day and then all of the sudden by Sunday night she was acting very strange and did not move out of one spot for almost 24 hours and would growl when me or Baby went near her, I think she was in pain from the shots and by Monday afternoon she was acting normal again and back to being horney again. But now last night I noticed her one eye was staying closed. This morning she is back to laying in the same spot, she got up and ate very little, usually she is a pig, I know she was eating less because of the heat, but yesterday she was eating, I picked her up and her left eye is not opening when I tried to open it her third lid is staying shut and the whites of her eye is blood shot. She was just laying in my lap very lethargic, but when Baby tries to go near her she is hissing and growling! She never acts like that with him, they get along great always play well together and cuddle nice they groom eachother and when they do play fight there is never aggression. So I know something is wrong with her. When I Google her symptoms with her eye it is coming up feline herpes or FLV, which is one of the things she just got vaccinated for???? Wth?!? Can a vaccine cause a cat to come to with the virus? She is not showing other symptoms like sneezing but she was wheezing a bit when I was holding her before. I'm so upset right now. I guess I should have just taken her to the regular vet but the money they charge is ridiculous. I wanted to adopt because when you adopt they are already spayed, vaccinated, microchip all for adoption fee, but this poor cat was just abandoned. I felt like as long as I can love her with all the love I have and take care of her the best I can she is better off then where she was! What should I do?!?!
