My 7 year old cat has been lethargic, I am away at the moment and he’s with my mother at our house, He has been staying inside (he usually loves going outside)and my mom said when she kissed his head there was a bad smell so she thought he had an ear infection she gave him some antibiotics she had leftover from her other cat and the smell disappeared after a couple of days, but she wanted to take him to the vet anyway to be sure he’s ok.
Where we live the vet is only open one day a week so she took him to the vet 4 days later to get antibiotics, but unfortunately they think it’s much more serious he has pale gums and eyes, they are doing blood tests and ruled out leukaemia and aids, now they are seeing if he’s been poisoned or baited. I’m filled with anxieties and worries because if he’s been poisoned it’s been days and I’m now terrified it’s too late. My mom feels so guilty but she’s elderly so she did the best she could.

I don’t know what answers anyone can give me, if the lethargy, pale gums and eyes are something anyone has experience with or If they know if there’s any hope If the next test comes back positive for poison, we should know soon but I’m so worried because I can’t be there

Praying for your cat. Is he eating, drinking?
What meds did the vet prescribe to her?

My mom said he has only eaten a little yesterday, they haven’t given him anything yet, we are still waiting for results from a second blood test

Unfortunately I think all anyone can advise sofar is to wait for the results of this test, which is so very hard to do. Whatever the answers are your cat may need to to be strong and “there” for him, so use this time -if you can- to breathe deeply, stretch, walk, rest and nourish yourself. It will help you to make decisions more clearly…and, if you are driving home, to drive more safely. Cats often eat grass on their own to flush out toxins…has your cat tried to do that?

Any word?
I thought he was getting better, he has seemed much more lively, but tests have shown he isn’t. They are starting to think it’s a tumour. I’m pretty devastated I’m sure it’s not going to be good news

Needed someone to vent, they are now thinking it is lymphoma, I’m devastated. They are continuing with his anti biotics and steroids and doing another blood test next week to see if his count has improved but they aren’t confident. Not sure how long we will have left with our little man.

I know you mentioned your vet is only open one day a week where you live but is it possible to get your cat to a specialty clinic to see an Internal Medical Specialist or if your vet confirms it is Lymphoma a Veterinary Oncology Specialist? How soon will you be able to return home? Sending special thoughts for your boy. :vibes::vibes::vibes:
