I just picked up my new baby boy this morning! He's 16 weeks and a van, very pretty! We have 3 dogs also, 10 yo shepherd mix, 1 yo french bulldog, and a 3 yo chiuhaha plus 5 kids, very busy houshold. This is my first sphinx and would love to collect all the info I can. Thank you in advance.
wow! i have always wanted a sphynx cat ( i guess mostly to go along with my chinese crested hairless dog) I want one soo bad-- Can you post a couple of pics of your baby?
We have several members who have sphynxs. Im sure they will respond!
I have become semi-addicted to that breed as I have allergies. I would love to own one, but would never give up my precious baby now! She's spoiled rotten!!! Can't wait to see some pics of your beautiful baby and hear how his personality is.
I have no info at all to tell you... I can only tell you that they don't have much hair.
But I would LOVE to see pictures! My mom has always wanted a Sphynx and never was approved to adopt one (she works long hours and apparently they're very social cats.) Are you a stay at home mom?
Pictures...we want pictures!!! A good friend of mine in the Philippines got themselves a Sphynx...they are Persian breeders. I rec'd an IM from him to which he said:
Friend: Guess what the breeder was feeding Nudie?
Me: What, RC Sensible maybe?
Friend: No, better than that...
Me: What, RC Exigent
Friend: No, he's on Hairball Control!!!!
Truth, A certain Sphynx named Magikmoon ShanghaiNude eats only hariball control dry food and he's awesome!
Congratulations on your new addition, I'm sure he'll be a pleasure!!
one of the breeders I dealt with fed her sphynx kits a mixture of cat foods, one of which was a hairball control adult food. She said it helps solidify their stool as it can be a bit sloppy when they are kits.
Welcome! You picked a great breed of cat, I own the same.
Your cat should fit into a busy household very well. Pictures of your Sphynx would be great. Also your doggies.
As far as information, your breeder should be the best resource. I keep two heated beds (one donut - one enclosed) no matter the season outside of the house, summer or winter. I give a bath every week and clip claws and clean ears. You can do this more or less depending on your cat and your schedule. Don't let them outdoors, they are inside kitties. A good cat tree is always appreciated. A cat water fountain is also good. You will need lots of toys, kittens are active and love to play. Most Sphynx I know are not picky at all, so the food thing isn't that hard. But make sure you feed a high quality food, some examples are:
Solid Gold
Merrick
Wellness
Nature's Variety Prairie
Felidae
Grocery store foods are to be avoided, and most chain pet store foods too aren't worth the money
You will want to keep them canned and dry. Also the pre-made raw food is good too. Just know Sphynx usually eat more food than a normal cat. Be prepared to go through a lot of food.
I gate cat food and the litterbox away from the dogs, otherwise the dogs eat the food and what is in the litterbox (ew, I know!?)
