Debra, Isn't it exciting to see new life? The "thing" was a placenta, and is good for Goldie. It's instinctive to destroy anything that might attract predators. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know! Just in case, though, when you look at the babies' private parts, a colon is a girl, and an exclamation point is a boy. Congratulations!
What colors did you end up with? I saw the post for 3 orange and 1 gray, but you said there are 5. What was the last one?
How are they all doing? I bet Goldie is just so pleased with herself. Something about new kittens seems to make mamacats very smug and self-statisfied.
We got 3 orange and 2 gray. Ther are all doing good. Goldie allowed me to give her a dry clean bed today. She looks more comfortable. One of the orange roots around a lot looking for his supper - but I suppose he will do OK. I am going to get some kitty formula just in case.........
I am SO happy!
When I came home from work today, Goldie was in her litter box laying down and had all 5 kits in there with her! I took them out and put them back in their bed. What do you think?
Debra, Had you just cleaned the litter box until it was immaculate? I can't imagine Goldie taking them in there if it wasn't, because they want no odor that would let predators know there were babies. So, I'm thinking that if there was no odor in the litter, she might have wanted to "tear up" her nest. Often mommy likes to tear up paper, and we like to give them nice, fluffy beds for their babies. Oh, the problems of motherhood! Sandie, where are you??
No, seriously, she probably wanted a little less space for her and her kittens. Usually I give them a tupperware container or a box and line it with soft towels. They tend to feel a little more secure when they are in a somewhat enclosed space.
OMG!! Debra!!!! How Wonderful!!! Woooohoooo!!! Soooo exciting!! Oooo you MUST get pics soon!! Can you send me a kitty or two with my next shipment of Poptarts?!?!?!?!?!?
