He's gaining weight well, he actually has a bigger tummy than expected his primordial pouch is massive, enough the vet was confused and said she'd never seen that, he's already 10lbs and we've been monitoring his weight. I'll definitely look into the s.boulardii, our vet is giving us some probiotic as well, I think proviable. I will also look into the optagest as well.

As long as he is taking metro, it’s going to kill the Proviable. Yes, you could offset when you give each. But I just see that as trying to fill a leaky bathtub. It can be done. But it’s a lot of work. The s boulardii is yeast based. It’s perfect for this task. It will be unaffected by the metro. It is recommended for people as well as cats and dogs for combatting antibiotic-induced diarrhea.

My rainbow bridge kitty, Patches, had IBD starting when he was only 18 months old. He was misdiagnosed and I did the vet hopping thing for 7 years before getting a good diagnosis. He was on a steroid for 7 1/2 years and tolerated it well. It also completely controlled his IBD. Every cat is different which is what makes this such a frustrating illness. If you want to try controlling this with diet which is successful for many cats try what is called a novel protein. A novel protein is one that your cat has not eaten before. You want to limit the grains and other fillers, get as close to just meat and the necessary nutrients as possible. Some people have good luck with a raw or home cooked diet. I will just put that out there and let you know there is a sub-forum in the nutrition forum for raw and homecooked diets. If you decide to try that do your research first, that sub-forum is a good resource. The diet needs to be balanced or it will do more harm then good.

It is the same with cats. The same thing does not work for every cat. I did the diet thing and it did not help at all. The only thing that controlled Patch's symptoms was the steroid. He tolerated it well and lived another 7 1/2 years after starting it completely symptom free.

I’m so confused. My kitty was IBD diagnosed with biopsy. However, she never threw up or had diarrhea. She had hairball obstruction which indicate slow motility but what is triggering her immune system to cause IBD?

Why? It probably won't do what you think, and there's probably a better alternative for whatever that is.

Cat grass is dubious even for healthy cats. It is thought that grass irritates the stomach and helps them intentionally regurgitate inedible bits in their stomach like ingested bone and fur. Some cats don't have issues eating cat grass. And others, they bring it back up along with anything else that was in their stomach at the time.

It's not. There are better fiber sources like psyllium husk if that's what you're looking for. Alternatively, you can use Miralax to bring extra water into her stools making them easier to pass. You can probably use both together. But I would try one at a time to start to understand how each one affects her.

You might also try adding some egg yolk to your kitty's diet to help with motility.

More info on egg yolk with a recipe for egg yolk powder (not to be confused with eggshell calcium which will have the opposite effect!) Or you can simply buy theirs. Egg yolk powder is much easier and more cost-effective than fresh yolk.

Hello, my cat was recently diagnosed with IBD, and will be put on metrotranzidol, and steroids, but we were told diet could also help to resolve the issue, but we're feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of that, so I was wondering if anyone had food recommendations or things that worked for them, and their cats?

I’ve never put mine on steroids went straight to novel proteins. With time managed raw feeding. He eats alligator meat, bison, kangaroo with premix and salmon oil (had to fit premix to as there’s a reaction on psyllium husk). What was incredible help also a soil based probiotics by Vitality Science. Every cat is different I recommend monitor reaction on every type of food. Whatever they have in the most commercial brads right now is complete poison destroying cats health. In the beginning I had 4 feedings a day I came down to 2 1/2 a day now. We don’t have no vomit or diarrhea or big weight loss anymore. Just some bad waves not too often with some extra hair and darker poop. Also when it’s a bad wave a thawed meat is better with a steam spinach. I know some people would think it’s a lot of hustle but I love my cat and I believe we managing very good considering this condition.
