Hi All,
There can come a time with IBD when all normal treatments fail to control it including diet, probiotics, Vitamin B, Prednisilone (steroids) etc, and that time has sadly come for my cat Simon. We are starting him on Leukeran, and so far no ill effects, no vomiting or lethargy which is great. There is also a possibility that his IBD is changing into small cell lymphoma, but we are not going to put him through a second full biopsy especially as the treatment remains the same for either condition. We did do a needle aspirate on some of his enlarged lymph nodes and no lymphoma was present there which is some good news.
He gets follow up blood work in 2 weeks to make sure red blood cell count remains ok, and we will do another ultrasound in a month to see if there are positive changes.
There have been threads that talk about how poorly some cats do on Leukeran, but my vet says 80% do ok, and I wanted to share a (so far) positive experience.
Here's my guy, he's 15, and my best friend.
