Still getting used to the SLR thing. Found out for the first time that it's harder to photograph around snow. I've been spoiled by point-and-shoot cameras, lol. But it was a beautiful day and I've been promising the kids the chance to spend some time outside. They're normally indoor cats, but sometimes when the weather is nice, I like to go outside with them and watch them just be prehistoric cats.
Willow is what I call the "stayer" or the long distance runner (I'm talking in racing terms, lol). When she first gets outside, she tends to do, like, nothing. After about 10 minutes or so, she starts warming up, and her energy level begins rising, until all you have to do is look at her and she flicks her tail and zips away (fortunately I have back-up: one look at my dog, Jake, and she settles down and is easy to catch)
Molly is the other one I can trust off-leash. She's too scardy to venture far, and when anything scares her (like my foot crunching on snow, for example), she bolts back for the door. She always wants to go outside, will stand against the front door and just stare outside, but when she gets the opportunity to go out, she tends to want back in pretty quickly. I think all she wants is a couple good rolls to get impressively dirty. Not so much interested in bugs. What kind of excuse for a cat is she? lol
I cannot trust Buffy off-leash, so whenever I take her outside (which is rarely, since she's the door-darter and doesn't need any encouragement), she's always on-leash. When I get the urge to take the cats outside, I try to wait until Buffy is sleeping somewhere out of sight and won't be able to see or hear me bringing two cats outside and leaving her behind, lol. She's been pretty darn good lately (and she's not fond of cold; she's actually an addict for heat and warmth), so I figured I might as well give her a treat.
I'll start off with Willow, since I brought her out first (with Molly, but technically, Willow went outside first, lol)
I laugh looking at this one. Willow doesn't meow, like, ever, but when she does, it's more what we call a turkey gobble. Her tongue tends to come out, curled, and away goes the patented Turkey Gobble. We mock her all the time. She wasn't making a sound in this, was probably just licking her lips, but it's the clearest shot I've ever gotten of her tongue sticking out.
(and by the way, you'll see the window screen behind her that shows why we can't have open windows anymore (at least not downstairs, where windows are level with the outside ground). Every single window downstairs has a hole in some shape or form, and the window can't even be open a crack, as the kitties WILL use their fat heads to wedge it open further)
At this point, she started wanting to come inside.
About a month ago, we petsitted my brother's two cats. After they left, we suddenly realized that Willow has HUGE eyes. We always knew they were big, but man, after spending 2 days with 4 cats with normal eyes (brother's 2 cats plus our other 2 cats), we realized Willow is descended from sort of owl creature.
