We don't do Christmas trees because of that.
My husband cut down a tree in the front yard and it had some pretty good sized branches on it. He trimmed on it. He trimmed the pointy ends off and we brought it inside. They love it. The only one who doesn't use it is Petie. He can't see and the tree kind of freaks him out.
