Yes, he has dust allergies. He is on Claritin for this. But, we didn't do this on Wednesday as well and he also had a pretty bad day then.Well putting away holiday items is outside of routine. I wonder if it could be a dust allergy.
We do have strays that come and go through our backyard but they mainly come through during summer. We installed a new fence and that seemed to keep most out of our backyard. We have a camera in our yard that picks them up when they do come through and the last one was I believe in September.Do you have any unknown animals that roam around the house that could be triggering him?
And by the way - congratulations that you‘re expecting a baby!
Here too just as a thought which could be way off - but do you think there possibly could be any correlation between your pregnancy and his behaviour?
You could see if certain sounds are triggers, even if they're things you can't hear (as a human). Maybe he tends to start attacking himself right after the heat comes on, and the culprit is a noisy furnace blower (if you have forced air heat). Or the refrigerator compressor. Cats can hear very high frequency sounds, far beyond the range of human hearing, so some sort of mechanical device could be the culprit. Or maybe a close neighbor has installed one of those high-frequency sound "pest" deterrents. We do have strays that come and go through our backyard but they mainly come through during summer. Thank you! ... I honestly wondered if there was something to me being pregnant and him starting to act up as it started around the same time when we found out I was expecting. I googled about it and most articles I read said they wouldn't be able to know until about the 3rd trimester. I am at the end of my first trimester still. We go to the vet next week so I will ask her then to see what she thinks. That is as far as I can recall the only big change that has happened in the past few months. We havent changed our routines or schedules though and havent brought in new baby things yet even though people are kindly giving us things already... we have been keeping them in our storage outside.
What a mess for you all.He is having x-rays done when I take him in this week on Thursday morning. They tried doing x-rays in November when this all started but he was too agitated and scratched and bit one of the vet techs ... I have to give him a heavy dose of gabapentin beforehand.
Sorry to the hear that. ...I do have a boy who is now 7 who was dxed with kidney disease at 2, and then HCM. So, sadly, there are these outliers who can acquire these conditions at a young age.
I would also discuss seizure medication with your vet. It may not be the answer, but I would inquire about it.
I'm so sorry. I hope a different medication works.Update on our little guy. The vet ran bloodwork to check values as well as checking for any sort of infection (felv, fiv, toxoplasmosis, etc). Everything came back normal and clear of infection. She also did several x-ray views of his spine, torso and tail. Again, everything showed normal. She sent the radiographs to a radiologist just to double-check her and they said that they did not see any abnormalities. She said that he has severe hyperesthesia. Even on 200mg/4mls of Gabapentin, he was growling at his tail while at the vet . We're going to start him on Phenobarbital while weaning him off of Prozac as it does not seem to be doing anything. My husband pretty much told me that he does not want to spend anymore on diagnostics and that if Phenobarbital doesn't work we may just have to let him go (he is thinking of our future baby here). Lugosi's episodes are happening all day every day and are severe. When we can control him while wrapping in blankets, he just stays there for hours because we can tell he is afraid to move if he starts to have an episode. He doesn't eat his food much anymore. He is declining. We had to have his Phenobarbital compounded into liquid form because he does not take pills well, so we should be getting that next week some time. It's a sad situation but it's sadder to see him in this state all the time.
