Howling?

I was sitting in my living room, and I heard a howl. I thought that there was a wolf at my door, but it turned out to be my cat! She also hissed and growled too. There didn't appear to be any other animal around, but maybe there was another cat around and I didn't see it? 

Do any of you know why she could have done it?

It's possible something startled her for a moment, or she smelled another cat. If she stopped doing it, it's probably nothing to worry about.
