My kitten, Kiki, is about 4-6 months old right now. She is my families second cat. A couple months ago, my family and I were feeding the cats whenever they asked- I counted it up and it was 5 times a day on average. Soon, both Kiki and Berbol(my other cat) were overweight. You could see when Kiki walked, her sides stuck out(oh and she is neutered) . It did not help that about a week after I began noticing their obesity, we got midterm break. My family went to Poland, and the cats were left in the care of a first-time dog-owner, my mom's best friend. When we got back, the cats were fatter than ever. So I put them on a diet, I decided it would do good for them, and I was the only one in the family who seemed to want to do something. I didnt want my cats to suffer later on in life because of what we did.
So, I decided that I would feed them three time a day- a handful of high-quality dry food in the morning, either dry or wet food(same amount at every feeding time) after school (about 3-4pm) and then in the evening (6-8pm), usually dry food (occasionally when my parents are preparing meat, they give some to the cats, and once in a while my parents buy some fresh chicken hearts for the cats). They've been on this diet for about a month now, but there is one problem- Kiki cant seem to get enough. Her weight has certainly gone down now, but whenever I feed the cats, Kiki literally gulps down her food then proceeds to stealing Berbol's. I've noticed that Kiki surprisingly is the dominant cat, and Berbol is a rather skittish cat( he is neutered too, an starting to get old), so I always sit with them as they are eating and watch her. I scold her if she takes his food.
I know this is a long story an all, but I want You to know all the details so that you can help me. I've been reading forums and I'm wondering if I am feeding Kiki to little.
Thnx in advance, BerbDCat
