Hi,
I finally got Jasmine to the point where she will eat the Prescription K/D canned food. I had not tried keeping the moist separate from the dry before (using two bowls). I put about a spoonful of moist into a bowl tonight and she munched it right down.
Now the question is, how much should I give her? She has been dropping weight (a few ounces each week) for some time now, and so I am very much interested in having her get some of that weight back. She had her 2nd sub-Q treatment tonight, which went really well. The vets and techs are optimistic that, if she takes to a renal diet, her BUN and creatinine levels will both improve to possibly even normal levels - since they are not all that bad at this point anyway - especially the BUN at 38, with normal phosphorus levels.
Jasmine has never been a real big eater - about a 1/2 cup of dry food per day at the very most. And she doesn't like 'left-overs'. If food sits in her bowl for 2 days, it might as well be pitched.
So - I'm wondering if about a half can per day would be enough? Or probably even less? Or let her eat as much as she'll take??? She's currently at 7.9 lbs (dropped from 7.11 a few weeks ago..and was over 8 lbs for many years). So perhaps a bit of extra feeding wouldn't entirely be a bad thing at this point? I'm determined to see that scale at 8 lbs. within the near future.......
Thanks for any advice.
Keith
