If high liver enzymes were caused by needing a dental cleaning, how long after the dental would it take for liver enzymes to return to normal?
She's been on Denamarin since early Nov and had a bloodtest a month+ after starting, plus had bloodwork before her dental (just over 2 months being on it). The denamarin is given about 3-5 pm each day and make sure she doesn't eat 1 hour after or 2 hours before giving. I use just enough pill pocket to barely coat, so she will take the pill.Do you know which liver enzymes were high?
Ask your vet about Denamarin. https://www.chewy.com/nutramax-denamarin-liver-health/dp/321540?utm_id=401602740&msclkid=224cda38235d153bbc77b9fb466ac2f9&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping_NC_All_HC_Health & Wellness_Brand_SSP&utm_term=4584688616922759&utm_content=Nutramax
Slightly, a 7 on Oct. 17th, with normal range listed as 1-6.Do you remember if her GGT was high?
Just received records from Jan 10, 2023 and ALT seems to have gone up to 433. I was worried about her appetitie being reduced this week after her dental and surgery, with 3 times in a row she did not come upstairs while I prepped their dinner.I am not familiar with time frame, I would ask to see the records so you could see if those numbers are coming down slowly.
Great news! How much of the appetite stimulant did the vet give you?Just received records from Jan 10, 2023 and ALT seems to have gone up to 433. A vet did send me a message, including they can prescribe an apetite stimulant. After hearing that, my cat has been back to eating pretty normally! This morning, last night and last morning ate almost all her food at once and went back to finish within a half hour to finish. Plus followed me upstairs and into the room where they get feed for evening meal! She hasn't done that for months! Crossing my fingers something is better??
Maybe healing from surgery affected her eating. Need to decide if I need to pick up the appetite stimulant since she is eating better and showing more interest at mealtime in the last 1.5 days than she has in months??? Will it continue?
At least I have a plan and next steps. They can give me a referral for ultrasound, but if she continues to do better I am wondering if it is necessary right now to do US? I would definitely retest her live values to see if any progress. Guess I should ask about that. What would you all do? Esp if more on a budget.
Oh geez, I totally misread that and thought her appetite came back after the appetite stimulant. This is even better!!No appetite stimulant has been given yet, which is why I'm very excited about her improved appetite now for 2 days straight! She just started eating well again. I don't think I will buy the appetite stimulant at this point bc she is back to eating well, but it's great to know it is available if/when I need it.
Awesome, that reaffirms what I was leaning towards and was very helpful to hear. Thanks for your feedback regarding this!
No worries, it happens. Will do!Oh geez, I totally misread that and thought her appetite came back after the appetite stimulant. This is even better!!
Please keep us updated on how she is doing!
So her blood test showed liver enzymes still are elevated (430). Her appetitie is still decent, but not quite pre-appetitie. I am also trying to train her for a microchip feeder this week, so not sure if she's a little fussy about that. It depends on the day and which food she is getting, some days she eats most all at once and other days needs hours to finish. Please keep us updated on how she is doing!
Was it the ALT that was 430? How about the others? So her blood test showed liver enzymes still are elevated (430). Her appetitie is still decent, but not quite pre-appetitie. I'm getting a referral for an ultrasound, and my vet said it's not super urgent, but I would like to get it done in the next month or so, if possible. So we'll see. I'm continuing the Denamarin for now.
Yes. Back in late Oct her AST was 90 and ALP 88, which flags values as high. With the limited blood check-up, those values were not included in her last three bloodtests. Was it the ALT that was 430? How about the others?
I made an appointment with a specialist to get the ultrasound done so it would be an actual appt time. Appt was today and they found a large mass, which appears to have spread to other areas, so they believe it is cancer. They are very hesitant about surgery being a possibility due to size, so I choose not to do anymore diagnostics because we wouldn't be able to treat it anyway. Cost was also a factor as it would have been thousands to do a ct to plan if surgery was possible, and could be $7-10,000 if we tried surgery. Please keep us updated on how she is doing!
She's about 12.5 years old. She's not doing well. Looks very weak and hardly ate anything. If I can't get home service until Monday, I don't think she's going to make it nor should I put her through waiting that long. It feels like she declined so much between before vet and when she arrived home from the vet.I am so sorry.
I can't remember, but how old is she? Is she stressed out at the vets?
I have been in similar situations with mine where a procedure might work and hold for awhile, or it might work and then come back in 24 hours. In those situations (provided their overall quality of life is still good), I *usually* try it---once. I've had 50/50 success rates with this, but talking with your vet about draining the fluid and what they feel would be best would be something I wouldn't write off completely, if you feel she would be up to it.
