A customer gave DH a shaker of homemade pepper today. I've never thought about how pepper was made before, but I am getting ready to do an online investigation. I am so excited about that pepper...I can't wait to try it.
This looks like black pepper. I wonder if that's how she made it?Originally Posted by jcat
It'll spoil you. We use a mix of different peppercorns for "regular" ground pepper, but dry and grind hot peppers from the garden for hot pepper. I usually don't bother with the dehydrator - just hang the peppers up to dry out, then use a coffee grinder.
I am planning to make "breakfast for dinner" one night, including a frittata. That's what I first going to try the pepper on. I don't know the customer, but she probably has no idea how tickled I am over that jar of pepper.Originally Posted by Winchester
I can't wait to hear how it is! Lucky, lucky you!
Like jcat, we use a mix of different peppercorns for our pepper here, too. I've never dried hot peppers or anything like that.
What are you going to use it on first?
I agree! That's a great idea!Originally Posted by mrblanche
Wow, we are hearing about so many home-made foods here lately! Maybe we need to start a recipe book!
Wasn't there a TCS cookbook a few years ago, or am I being delusional? I agree it's a great idea! There have been so many recipes flying around recently I can't figure out where to find half of them. To compile them all in one place is a great idea!Originally Posted by mrblanche

It must have been before I joined...I would love such a cookbook!Originally Posted by calico2222

Me, too! Or at least a place here to post recipes so they don't get lost in the fray.Originally Posted by nurseangel

Did you try the pepper yet???
Sounds really good!Originally Posted by nurseangel

It was already grated. I was afraid to use it in my homemade chicken salad. I'm still trying to adjust the dosage.Originally Posted by Winchester

Was it a mix of peppercorns or already grated? I love pepper.
