Figured I should introduce myself since I've been spending quite a lot of time on this awesome site!
My name is Courtney and I'm owned by 2 cats. Might be long...
First there is Isis. She isn't mine and was a reason why I didn't want a cat. She belongs to my boyfriend and he worships the ground she walks on. I looked after her for about 6 weeks while he was away for work. The first bit was terrible. So much fur...so unfriendly! After cleaning the apt and playing with miss Isis a bit we started to get along, but it took me a very long time to understand that things are on her terms. LIKES: pets, brushing, chains, toilet water
DISLIKES:being held, anything to do with her tummy, petting her the wrong way (took awhile to figure out what she liked here), petting for too long, petting for too short, getting near her face etc etc etc. It was really hard for me to accept that some cats are just particular. We currently maintain a relationship at a respectable distance. I do appreciate her intelligence though. So much going on behind those eyes. She does make me laugh with her obsession with chains (she went as far as stalking my sister who was wearing a very long key-necklace). Gotta say I've really grown to like her and respect her as an animal.
Next came Loki.
He was one of those spur of the moment type things. Sometime while I was studying for a huge exam I decided I needed a break and convinced my bf to take me to the SPCA. He really didn't want to go because he knew we'd come back with a pet. I assured him we would not. We visited all the cat rooms at the shelter and played with all the little cats. Just as we were heading towards the dog kennels I noticed a little brown kitty in one of the rooms that we had missed. I looked at my bf and said that's my cat. I don't know how I knew. I went in and poked at him to see what he actually looked like. Poor thing was soooo sleepy, he uncurled long enough to look at his drippy, greasy face then promptly went back to sleep. Then some girl came in and wanted my picture for the newspaper (they were doing an adoption piece) so I picked up the drippy kitty and he gave me a hug and fell asleep again. Musta been a bad pic cause it wasn't in the paper. We grabbed the kitty's info and went to the adoption desk to ask some questions, but we ran out of time and my bf had to get to work. I kept thinking about the kitty. Went back and forth 100 times at least. That night I went to sleep with the name Loki chosen and the determination that I DID NOT want a cat. The very next day I changed my mind and picked up my little buddy. He then proceeded to rip his way out of the cat carrier and spent the rest of the trip home in the trunk (his own doing). Poor guy was sleepy cause he had surgery on a hernia, greasy from mite meds and drippy from all those kitties. He quickly became my favourite thing in the world. The most loving cat I have ever met. He won't bite, scratch, hiss or anything despite what you throw at him. If he does bite it's so gentle and he licks you after. (He really doesn't like ear drops). I could probably go on forever about him, but I'll just say he's the opposite of my bf's cat.
Both cats do get along surprisingly well. Isis is the boss for sure and she often redirects anger at him, but they do ok. She even helps keep him clean.
