Hello everyone! I'm the mom of the most wonderful, loving feline furbaby I have ever met. His name is Charcoal Panther; he is a three year old black savannah mix. His papa had him front delayed when he was a baby, and luckily there are no negative behavior issues as a result. He began climbing on me and grooming me the day he met me ( that would be Charcoal, not his dad!! lol), and we bonded like super glue.
So, he's a large, long boy. We exercise and play with him many times daily- you all know the drill: meal time is closely followed by time to pretend to hunt and kill things..!! He loves to chase us through the whole house from one end to the other; he also loves to "choke" a wrist or able while systematically using his back legs and feet to pretend to eviscerate our calf or forearm. In fact, he will grip onto an ankle when we're in bed under the covers, and rock back and forth with his back feet until he exhausts himself- it's so funny. We'll occasionally tell him,"Okay, Charcoal, you killed it" or,"Good boy, it's dead" now and then during the process in hopes he'll stop early... not so much, though. :smshfrk:
Our current conundrum with our boy is the seasonal desire to add body fat. Although he is strictly an indoor cat, he is doing the instinctual thing and is asking for extra food, sometimes driving us crazy in the process. We try to distract him with exercise, behavior training and play, sometimes to no avail. Charcoal gets a high quality dry food, three Tbs. in the morning, two in the evening and one before bed- we found that he doesn't wake us up at 3 a.m.by licking our ears or dad's bald head so often to eat that way. We supplement with a small can of premium wet food (~3oz.) split up as a treat through the week. Treats are given sparingly, three or four per sitting around the times a week. It's too easy to over indulge a house cat- he's a big guy already, and I don't want him getting fat and not healthy.
So if anyone has some ideas for very low cal snacks to satisfy his drive for extra chow, we would love that.
