I just joined an hour or two ago.. and I'm already pleased.
My names Crys (short for Crystal) and my kitten is Leo. I'm 18 and he's err.. nearly 10 months old?
I joined these forums because I've never really been a good cat person. I've always loved pets and I have always had them, but never really took the time to take care of them. I was semi-allergic and my parents would never allow me to keep them inside which made things worse (Florid - hello pollen!). When I moved out of my parents house last August I had to leave behind my older cat Nicholas (my dad stole him in a way) and after a few months I was desperately wishing I had a cat. Thats when I got Leo.
Anyway, my point is.. Leo is an inside cat (I live in an apartment complex) and I've never had that before. I've never had a cat constantly arround, never had to deal with a litter box really, never had a cat that constantly begs for food, never had a chunky/fat cat. We never really had money growing up so I never really had a vet either - which is still a problem now but Leo Does have his shots and vaccinations etc.
A few months ago my older cat Nicholas died. Even though I had a new kitten I was still in love with Nicholas. I had only gotten him July 2003 right on my birthday, a tuxedo cat - my favorite.. everything was so perfect. I loved him so much because I had a very rough Senior year of high school.. and as we all know - pets are always there for you to feel better. He died of a Rare fatal feline disease (that I can't think of at the moment) supposedly caused by eating a lizard? He wasn't even a year old. He would've been this month. It really breaks my heart. I had to see him slowly lose all his weight and his ability to go to the bathroom or walk. Its so hard.
After that tragedy.. its been really hard for me. I'm so scared. I guess I've never really had luck with any pets (they all either ran away, got hit by a car, stolen, or we gave away) but this one was different because I was old enough to actually be an adult about the situation with adult feelings.
So I want to take care of my new kitten Leo. I want the best for him and I want him to live as long as possible. I want to know what all of his behaviors mean, what things could possibly mean he has a problem, what dangers he has just because he's always indoors, etc.
Plus I love cats! And I find that most people who are also cat lovers are great people, so I hope to make lots of new friends
Thats all I can think of to say for now, so here are some pictures of Leo and with that I bid adieu
Hope to get to know you all soon!
He's named Leo after my ex's Great Uncle (and what he wanted to name our future son..er ) and because we're both Leos astrologically.
And this is Nicholas (Nicky) the one that recently passed away. His name was Nicholas D. Wolfwood (possibly the best name I've ever given a pet) after an anime character that wears a tux.. and my ex's confirmation name. Ah, just seeing him makes me cry a bit
