My 8 year old tabby has started going potty outside of his box! He has a little furry sister that we believe has been being a bully when it comes to guarding the litter box. Any idea on how to help him? He now won't go into the basement to go potty as every time he does they fight. This behavior also started when I went back to work.

I suggest setting up another litter box in another part of the house for him.. sounds like his sister is defending the box in the basement as her's and she won't share (sometimes cats don't like to share).

We are going to get some new boxes for both. I just feel bad since he is such a lover and his sister is being mean.

I agree additional litter boxes are a good idea.

It also could be some sort of behavioral thing connected to you "leaving them" to go back to work.
