Subject: LITTLE TYKE TX2919 AKA TINY TIM

Little Tyke from Houston AKA Tiny Tim is in danger.

He appears severely deformed - his rear legs stick forward almost straight out between his forelegs.

He copes well, bottom scooting at high kitten speeds and hauling himself up incredible obstacles with his front paws/claws.

His bone specialist consultation Tuesday was very sad.

It is his ligaments - they are luxuirated and will not work. The tension has over his 3 months pulled his hip ball joints out of socket -both of them. He is in some pain all the time and lots when his legs are moved the wrong way.

He said Tyke was not a candidate for amputation as cats do not do well with amputation up at the hip.

The recommendation was euthanasia.

Our Board voted for another opinion. YEAAAA!!!!!

Michelle and Denise have taken on the chore. He is scheduled at the Surgery Diagnostic Clinic on Thursday October 23rd at 10:30 AM.

We need all the help we can get for this kind of thing - it is way over the Board's approved budget - but if you had ever met him - seen the spark in his eyes! Seen him jump carrying those frozen legs to the top of our recliners, and when jumping down - holding his back end up to not impact it on landing!

If you had ever met him - his sweet little disposition - his pretty little Lynx Pointed face even though he got his Daddy's Tabby coat! What a Trooper!

Very feisty - very sweetie - depends what mood he is in-
I pray to the Meezer Gods for this little guy and I know it is "Iffy". They have been so good to us lately, maybe we have used up our alottment for now...

Best regards, prayers and whiskers crossed for Little Tyke AKA Tiny Tim

I got this update a few days ago...sorry I've been so slow posting it. We have more hope now!

----------------------

I am quoting to you from the letter sent by the consulting surgeons on Little Tyke in October.
This is written by Nancy Zimmerman-Pope, DVM, MS Consulting physician at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center.

****************\\

To: Dr. Moebius, referring DVM

Thank you for your referral of Michelle G. and Little Tyke.

The following is a summary:

History: (excerpt) he was referred to our center for bilateral pelvic
limb deformity. Radiographs provided by the rescue society demonstrated bilateral coxofemoral luxation with shallow aoetabuli,
bilateral stifle hyperextension with malformation of the femoral
condyle and tibial plateau, and hyperextension of both tarsi. Pelvic canal diamtere appeared adequate.

Physical: (excerpt) Little Tyke was a bright , alert, playful kitten.
He scooted around the exam room, up over chair legs, and in and out of his carrier. He was very agile even though he has no use of either pelvic limb. The pelvic limbs were carried under the abdoman in a fixed extended position as Little Tyke walked on his forelimbs. He groomed himself and rolled on the floor with his toys. He did not appear to be pain unless an attempt was made to extend the coxofemoral joints.

Diagnosis: Bilateral congenital pelvic limb deformity

Treatment Recommendations: Corrective surgery is not an option.
Recommend continued conservative treatment at this time. Little Tyke does not sem to be pain so no analgesics prescribed. Little Tyke may
adjust to a cart, but if the rear legs become problematic or he
begins to traumatize them, bilateral pelvic limb amputation may be indicated.

Comments: This was a very interesting case, although I am sorry there is not more that we could offer. It is my opinion that Little Tyke is NOT suffering - he appears to have adapted very well and is apparently fully functional. My only concerns are that he may develop sores on the pelvic limbs or have difficulty getting around if he gained too much weight. I think he could learn to accept a cart which may facilitate exercise and prevent trauma or obesity.

****************\\

We are actually encouraged - basically they say, let him grow up and see how it goes. Check back with any difficulties or behavior changes, sores, problems, etc.

As he gets bigger we may have to consider the amputation and the cart. Take it slow as it goes.

Meanwhile LT (as he has become known around here) is doing fine and was a star (the other) night on CBS News 11 (Dallas).

If you're really interested in him, go ahead and submit an application for him. (You can find the app on our website.) All of our adoptions go through the Director of Texas Siamese Rescue, no matter which city they are fostered in.

We do have a member in Houston who holds Adoption Days at the Petco off 290 close to 45th...I'm not sure if it is every Saturday or every other. I can check.

They thought he needed surgery but after vets reviewed his case, they want to hold off on it at this point ans see how he is doing. That's the impression I get from the update I read on this thread. Here's a part from that update -

I think what u need to do for adopting him is go to this website - http://tx.siameserescue.org/TXadopt.html- it explains the adoption process-what u need to do, etc. .Be sure to use his ID number - TX2919. Hope this helps? Maybe u can PM Meezer_Mama if u need further clarification/information?

Here's the latest update I have received...directly from Tiny Tim himself! He's asking for a new bike for Christmas. Can you help?

"Hi there everyone!
My name is Little Tyke and sometimes people call me Tiny Tim. I got rescued in Houston and Siamese Rescue Alliance took me even though Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not really very Siamese. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m only a kitten, four months or so. Everyone keeps telling me I was born with a handicap, but Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not sure what they mean? I am just fine. I do all the normal kitten things. I love to play with my toys and sit on your lap. I eat and drink and always use my litter box. But, for some reason these humans keep taking me for trips in the car to see people called “specialistsâ€. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not sure what these people do exactly? Maybe because Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m special all these people want to see me. So I try my best to put on a good show for them. Although, Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not very fond of having to ride in the car to go see them.

My foster meowmy told me I might be getting something called a cart? I think itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s kinda like a bicycle for kitties. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m very excited about this. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m so fast now. Just think how fast I could be with wheels! Can you help me get my new bike? They have to take off my back legs above the knee and that is expensive and painful too! But I can cope! I am TOUGH STUFF!

Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m sending my picture so you can see how beautiful I am. Some people are a little scared when they first see me and say I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t look right. Whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s “rightâ€? Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve looked like this since I was born and Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not complaining. Everyone that visits me thinks Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a blast to play with. They even hold me and pet me and love me. So Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not worried. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a special kitty and I know it!

If you wouldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t mind sending some of that stuff they call “money†so I can get my new wheels, Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d be so happy! But if you canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t, Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank you for listening to my story. Maybe when I get my new bike I can ride right into your house and stay there forever.

Kitty Kisses to you all,
Little Tyke
