The rule of thumb for a young kitten is 1LB for each month in age. I highly doubt that a small kitten can be overfed.Does it sound alright that she already weighs 13.5 oz at 16 days old? She has gained weight steadily every day with no major jumps in weight.
So depressing! Sounds like he really didn't know what he was doing as all of them look viable in the photo.I am not sure why her siblings died! The person who found them said he did trap neuter release and was always unable to trap the feral mother and she got pregnant. He said she was probably only able to nurse them a couple times before she was hit by a car that left her in the street. I believe he was attempting to bottle feed all five of them by himself (and he could've made a mistake) although he claimed to have bottle fed kittens before and was very emotional about the other kittens and the mother. He instructed me to get kmr formula and that if I didn't feed every 3 hours she could die and to keep her very warm. He only had the kittens for about 2-3 days so I don't know what may have gone wrong while they were in his care! She was 3 days old when I met her and she must've been with her mother for a few hours-1day.
What a darling!
Could be parasites as well.Upon closer inspection of the poop in the cage, there is a little drop of blood in some of the poop, could this all be from straining and constipation?
Start adding a few drops of olive oil to her bottles. You can also get an infant suppository (glycerin) and shave off a small piece. It looks like she might have a poop that is too large to get all the way out. She no longer has any blood, but she is straining to poop and it looks as though she will have a large solid poop, but can only poop mucus liquid. She gets out of her bed and meows for me to help her and begins pooping almost liquid mucus consistency but strains each time she attempts to poop. Is there anything I can do to help her if it is in fact a very large poop?
Sorry about all the poop details! :lol3:
