OK I just posted my intro in the New Member forum, but this is the reason I'm here. Short summary, our baby Megan does not like other intruders, even thru the window in the yard and all she knows is a one cat household, HER!
We found a stray a few days ago, he was hanging out in our yard when my husband came home from work (2AM) and it was all rainy & cold so we just had to bring him in. We scoured the neighborhood for "Lost" signs, spoke to a few neighbors and have repeatedly checked craigslist, pet sites & shelters.
I know he would have little chance thru the traditional shelter and every no-kill I could contact is full, or they didn't even return my message.
We had him checked for microchip (of course nothing) and took him to the vet to make sure he wasn't contagious for anything and they gave him 1st vaccines. His neuter appt is Wed. We are OK financially to pay for this and have kitten-proofed the master bedroom so he can hang in there and I'm in the guest bedroom and Megan has free reign of the rest of the house. We've kept them apart, but even us holding him, she hisses, or even if he's in the bedroom mewing she'll come hiss under the door. He OTOH, mostly ignores her, which I'm sure just irks her. We are calling him Mister K2 (Kitteh 2) just cuz I don't want to get more attached by giving him a real name but Megan is referring to him as Mr Annoying LOL. He also had no reaction to the resident cats at our vet (they house dozens of unadoptables) and an energetic puppy at the other vet when we were checking for the chip.
So I'm just looking for moral support, I'm well networked online so I think I'll be able to find him a forever home by just word of mouth. The challenge there is I am a little intimidated by how to screen people, I'd almost rather it be thru an established organization cuz they are proly much better at finding good applicants. I have looked at several orgs paperwork, should I just use that and draw up my own application? When I can find him humans, I don't want any money but I like the idea that they could make a donation to our vets foundation just as an extra screening measure. Kitten adoptions thru local orgs are $75 and up. Part of the problem is that Las Vegas has super high foreclosure and unemployment and is always transient, so that just adds to my stress.
And of course my heart is breaking to not keep him, logically we want to stay a one cat household for us and for Megan's sake. My house would be overflowing if I could rescue every kitteh that stole my heart. Then I also feel guilty that I feel like I should be doing more, not just now but always, I should be volunteering or out doing TNR or something but I have my own health challenges that I have enough trouble dealing with already.
Here's Mister K2 (I'm guessing I need a lot more posts b4 I can post pics direct, yes?)
