HELP...old cat stopped grooming

My old cat Katie is a 18 year old calico. She loves being outside even if it's hot as heck.(texas weather) She has stopped cleaning herself, she keeps getting all these massive furballs under her belly. I try to make her come in but she is happy outside. The vet said she wont make it past this summer. Is there anything I can do to help ease her along? She stopped caring for her self because she is ready to die?

I have a 10 year old Calico that stopped grooming herself last year. She is still alive and very active. When did she stop grooming herself? Maybe she grooms herself when she outside and your not watching?

She is just really greasy!!! Like she hasn't washed her hair in a long time. Nah, I never ever see her wash herself. I am always having to dab my little kitty wash pads on her, and cut off the hair balls.
