Just dropping a few lines to introduce myself and my furkids. I'm Bea and although I'm not new to being owned by cats and kittens I am new to being a Mummy to a two and a half week old feral kitten Poppet. (She's such a tiny thing that was the first name that sprang to mind.) I needed advice asap and found your forum and got some brilliant links and advise from your members so here I am
At the moment I have five adult furkids of varying ages and they all love the country life. They were all rescued from different areas in Auckland City where we lived and I lived in constant fear of roads!
Lisa (Baby) is our oldest girl at 11 years old, a tortie tabby DSH that still suckles anything furry (including the DH)
Janae (Nae Nae) is five and we were told is and oriental cross and we kept two of her kittens that we couldn't find homes for, Muffin (Muffy) and Nu Nu (The only boy) are four and all of them are inseparable and very cuddly. They are all DSH with beautiful markings and personalities.
Fluffy Cat was dumped on our farm three days after we moved in and we were adopted by her. She was spayed and follows us everywhere! She's a Long Haired Tabby.
And then we have Poppet, our newest addition and the reason I found this site.
My DH found her in a hedge beside her dead sibling. He had heard kittens crying for a couple of days and couldn't find them then he followed one pitiful cry and found Poppet, covered in fleas and blowfly eggs and maggots and bought her home.
After a bath and flea comb and some searching on Google I raced off to buy what I thought she would need from the list, (I was surprised to find Kitten Replacement Formula here) and now I am back to morning feeds, cleaning bottoms and talking silly baby talk to a little dot that fits in the palm of my hand. (She sleeps with DH and me or else she just cries and cries, the other cats all sleep with the kids!)
Thanks for all your good advise so far ... Bea and the Furkids.
