I've posted this before but I think I've put it in the wrong forum:-
Hi everyone, I'm just looking for some advice on what to do. My kitten was involved in an accident with my dog 48 hours ago. My dog had a nip at him when he was eating his food, this was totally out of character for him. Anyway, we intervened immediately but when we found him he was having a seizure/fit and thrashing around the kitchen. The bite marks were on his neck and the top of his head. He was in the vets within 2 minutes of it happening due to the close proximity of the vets. He was placed immediately on oxygen and X-rayed for fractures in the skull or spine. Fortunately he had neither which was when the vet explained that the bites were not the concern. She could feel swelling in his brain. Due to the vets not being open over night, we transferred him to an overnight vets where they could monitor him as he was breathing on his own and blinking when his eyes were touched but very little else. Fast forward 48 hours, he's had period of rigidity in which he'll extend all his legs as far as they'all go and crane his neck backwards but he has also began reacting when his back legs are touched (sometimes) by kicking, he's being fed by syringe and is swallowing but still not awake/alert. He's on methadone following morphine, metacam and was given mannitol roughly 24 hours after the incident as they were concerned about a bleed on the brain. Fortunately, he's still fighting after all of this but we're not sure on the prognosis anymore. We're clutching at straws hoping that every little improvement we see is him refusing to give up, but as the hours pass by, the vets are feeling less and less optimistic. Has anyone had any experiences similar to this? We are both making ourselves sick with worry. He's such a little thing and too young to be fighting for his life.
