I have what feels like a no win battle for almost 2 years. My poor baby has been to 3 different veterinarians. Last one being a dermatologist specialist. She's been on antibiotics atleast 4 times, steroid pills, and now this past Friday Atopica. I have not given her this medication yet bc everything I read on here. I don't want her to further weaken her immune system. I have yet to read one long term success story when it comes to skin allergies. Also has anyone ever thought that the liter we are using could be part of this serge in skin conditions? I have 3 other cats, they do itch occasionally, NOTHING to my baby Cream's condition, they do not eat the same food. So I can't help but wonder if liter could play a role in this incrediblely frustrating situation. It's literally taken over my life

Just a thought: My cat was on steroids for many years before I figured out she was allergic to fish. Removed fish from her diet and she has been itch free for several years and no more steroids. Before and after pictures below. Her hair has all grown back as you can see.

Thanks dorymb, fish n chicken has been in all my cats diets. As I have learned over the past few years those two are horrible and cause allergic reactions. I have taken the fish away. I have tried so many different proteins, rabbit, lamb etc but trying to get them to eat them is not working. N so many foods say one thing but when you read all the ingredients chicken and Menhaden Fish are in there. How long was your kitty on steroids? And also was it the prednisone pills or injections or this atopica? And has you're kitty had any long term side effects from them? And what are you feeding her now?? Thank you for posting those pics. I wish everyone would do this when it comes to skin problems. It's helps to see the difference and also similarities.

Is she on a monthly flea preventative? Has she be de-wormed? What's her diet like now?

My Vet only said she was a "fastidious groomer." She would lick and lick incessantly. Her belly was not raw, but hairless and her coat was thin and dull. He put her on an injectable steroid as needed for her asthma attacks. She received periodic shots for at least 5 or 6 years, every 6-10 weeks. When another Vet put one of my other cats on fish oil supplements, I thought it would be good for all my cats. Isis ended up practically bald. That's when I stopped all fish (I know... they sneak it in, you have to carefully read all labels of dry and wet.) Isis never had another asthma attack, stopped that incessant grooming (it kept me up at night!) and her coat is lovely now. It's been over four years now.

I feed mostly wet, half a cup of dry. Right now it's Beyond Chicken dry and Wellness varieties usually turkey without fish. She likes lamb, rabbit and duck. She isn't on flee preventative. Had her poop checked in December and no worms, but she only goes outside with us to sun anyway. I know my story is anecdotal, but it's worth a shot to try. Hope it helps you.

Oh. I did worry about all the steroids she received over the years. My Vet said cats tolerate steroids better than humans. Isis seems OK, I haven't noticed any side effects, but who knows? Hopefully, she will remain healthy.
