Ciaran doesn't do well in the carrier for long trips, so I usually try to tether his harness to the seat belt. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on the relative safety and comfort of a regular cat harness vs a small dog "seat belt" harness for a long drive.

In my experience a cat can get out of any harness ever made. If you truly can't crate your cat, either in a carrier or a larger crate, I suggest getting one of the walking vests that are much more secure than a harness.

My concern is less escape- he's good about harnesses--than it is safety if the car stops short and whether there is any safety advantage to a car harness vs a conventional harness.
