Hello!

I took my long haired kitten to the groomer to shave his fur to help with hair balls. I saw him dry heaving yesterday. Is there any proven/safe thing I can give him to help pass hair balls safely? Someone reccomened tonlyn laxatone however it contains mineral oil and I read online that it can cause death. Thanks!

I use GimCat Soft Extra Malt paste. Never had a problem with it and it's sold at the vet clinics where I live too. I generally prefer malt paste.

Hi! You can try something as simple as a dab of butter/margarine to place on his paw or your finger for him to lick it off. When you see dry heaving, repeat daily for at least a couple of days, otherwise a couple times a week should suffice. There are also a number of other OTC malt pastes you could try as well. Just do an internet search on 'cat malt paste' or 'hairball remedies'.
