Thank you Callista, I had been reading several threads and they mentioned calicos and wondered what type of cat they were. I had been calling her a tortieshell.
I suppose people think of the name Gizmo as being masculine, but when she was born she was mostly black except for the 2back paws being white and a tiny white spot under her neck and what looked like 2 huge ginger eyebrows, she reminded us so much of a Gremlin, the name had to be Gizmo. As we didn't know the sex then it didn't matter, but she now has the nickname of Gizzi, which is more feminine I think.
Totally! Gizzi is a cute name! I can see how the orange patches might not have shown up until she got a little bigger. Newborn kittens are such tiny little things there's just not enough space on them to show all of the details their coats will have! :lol3:
Calico is kind of regional--I don't think they use it outside the US much. Officially, I think the term is "tortoiseshell-and-white", but lots of people call them calico cats.
