My husband is having chemo and is ready to come home from the hospital. His oncologist is very concerned about our cats (we have 6). They are ages 14 to 18 and have always eaten on one end of our kitchen counter. We need to make a change to keep him safe. Any ideas? Most can still dead jump up from the floor! They walk around the entire counter when hungry. I never prepare food directly on the counter and wind ex constantly.

Can you put a feeding table up for them in another room?  One that they will associate with eating and can walk around that table when they're hungry instead of your counter?

how you get cats off the counter is to see what they don't like in your house before you go buying stuff, and if they don't like whatever they don't like you put it on the counter.

I DO understand but if they have always stayed on one end and you clean it appropriately (and maybe bleach and then a water rinse now for extrasuperspecial safeties sake) I can't see the harm

UNLESS THEY GO OUTDOORS-THEN ITS NOT THE CATS, ITS THE GERMS THEY BRING IN
