I will start out by saying that I know my gray/blue kitty is a DSH. She was born feral, so there's no realistic chance of breed, and in any event, she lacks "smile" and emerald eyes of a Russian blue. But she certainly looks to me like she has silver tipped fur. Where her fur is shorter (around her face and legs), the fur is visibly lighter / more silvery in color, and when when I part her fur, I can see that the tips are lighter than the middle part.
But when other people ask about their blue kitties on this forum, I see comments suggesting that Russian blues are distinguishable from DSH for their silver tipping.
What's the genetics around that tipping? I can definitely notice that certain pure bred blue cats appear lighter in color overall (esp. British SH), but it doesn't seem obvious to me that DSHs are all so uniformly different in color than Russian blues. I assumed all gray cats had some degree of silver tipping, regardless of breed. Is that not right?
Here's Juno for reference.
