So she eats purina proplan nf advanced kidney disease. She loves it but it has salmon and carrageeenan. I guess don't worry about it since salmon is not the first ingredient and lots of people feed cat food with carageenan with no problem. The hills prescription does not and has chicken and pork,no as many biproducts. Is carageenan and fish so bad that I shouldn't feed it to a cat with renal disease+? Byproducts I'm not worried about its the other 2 ingredients. Don't suggest not feeding her prescription. I will continue to do so

Have you talked to your vet about those the salmon and carrageenan? That’s where I would start.
My 2 year old girl is on Prescription Science Diet Urinary Care Chicken flavored C/D. Her kidneys are good, thank goodness! All 3 of my kitties love it!
I have used Science Diet since my first kitties in the 90’s. My vet recommended it! I have always been pleased with their products!
Stick with Prescriptions! You are a good pet parent! Best of luck!

Hi. I take it your cat is older? Given that, forget worrying about carrageenan. And, as far as the salmon, pretty much ditto. It comes to a point in time that how well they eat - and how well their bodes react to it - is more important. Since she has issues that must be continually monitored anyway, you can determine over time by looking at her test results, and how well she is doing overall, if other changes are in order.

She is 8 yrs old. Recheck in 3 months. Since she likes it I will stick with it. He gave me appetite stimulants since morning only she has to have flavor or she won't eat. It made her begging for food all day. I will try fortiflora instead.. She has had a couple episodes of constant crying so I also have cerinia if that happens again. He suggested a specialist if things get bad. Thanks for replying. I was in tears when that happened.

Purina responded to my questions. The carageenan is undegraded which is safe for cats, not degraded. They use both wild caught and farm raised
