He was a natural born genetic mutation, I don't see why he couldn't compete. It's not like he was genetically engineered. i just wish they would have posted a picture, why would they post a picture of another cat and not the one they were writing about? I did find him on the internet. Although he does have the three colors known to be calico, he does not have them in the familiar distinct 'patches', they are muted and blended, more like a dilute tortoiseshell. Beautiful cat, I would like to see his offspring!
