looking for opinions on whether a grain or a protein (specifically chicken and fish) would be more likely to cause a food intolerance causing diarrhea. thanks!
thanks Sharky. we have narrowed down intolerances to fish =diarrhea and either chicken or grains= diarrhea. right now she can only eat Instinct wet lamb. Prairie made by same company has Chicken as 4th or 5th ingred and potato starch and oat fiber but it gives her diarrhea. im trying to figure out should i introduce a starch or chicken (fish is out of the question) first. my vet either wants science diet or homeade and she wont eat homeade only s/d dry which I dont agree with being she has perfect stools on the wet Instinct Lamb. she's getting tired of the lamb and i do hope to introduce new foods soon buut am afraid of tummy upsets. she eats no dry cat food, she loves it but i am afraid to feed as it gives her the runs.Originally Posted by sharky

wow, another kitty like Little Miss!! can Sprout eat any dry food at all? they better keep making the lamb!! were Sprouts in tolerances tummy related?Originally Posted by NinaCaliente
My Sprout also has food intolerances, and the only thing we have found that works for him is the wet Instinct lamb too. I don't know what I'll do if they ever quit making it! I have no advice, but I wish you luck in your search.
Yes, his problems were all tummy related. He had diarrhea when we first brought him home last year, but I attributed that to change in food. The worst of it went away, but his poo was still VERY soft and he had awful gas. Fecals were negative, so the vet had me try a hypo-allergenic wet food (lamb-based) that worked like magic. We experimented with different commercial foods, but nothing worked except the Instinct lamb.Originally Posted by BBDOLL22

We have not found any dry food that he can tolerate. I recently saw Instinct Rabbit kibble and tried that, but it was a no go. The Prairie lamb kibble doesn't work for him either. Unfortunately they do not make Instinct kibble in lamb formula and I haven't found any other lamb-based grain free dry foods either, so I haven't been able to try that. I was searching for a long while because, as I'm sure you've noticed, Instinct wet is not exactly cheap.
Recently though I put my other two cats back on it exclusively as well. Griffin has been having some icky ear issues and the vet recommended trying him on the lamb and seeing if it improves. Luckily my 3 cats all LOVE the lamb, so they have no problems with that plan!I just wish lamb foods were as widely available for cats as they are for dogs.
Have you tried any of the limited ingredient diets from Natural Balance? They have a Duck and a Venison with Green Pea Flour. Neither type have any grains in them. I used the Venison with my IBD cat and it did a wonderful job of helping with his diarrhea. I bought it at Petco for about $30/24Originally Posted by BBDOLL22

I pay about $43 for a 24 can case. There is only one small chain store in my area that carries it regularly, and they price it at $1.79/can. Pet Supplies Plus carries Prairie formulas and Instinct dry (no wet) and could order it for me, but they are a bit more expensive.Originally Posted by BBDOLL22

I've tried the frozen raw a couple of times, but I didn't even know they made freeze dried! I'll send you a PM.
Sharky, Sprouts mom and I were wondering about the freeze dried. is it like dry food, can it be left out for a bit? anything you can tell me about it would be great. thanks!Originally Posted by sharky
