Hi! If you have used/are currently using the Feliway Classic Diffuser (plug in) with your cat, could you please participate in this anonymous survey. I am not connected to CEVA/Feliway or any marketing, it is a survey for my animal management course. The aim of the survey is to identify if factors, such as age, gender or behaviour problem, have an impact on the success of the product. It can be completed multiple times if you have more than one cat. Thanks!

A study investigating the efficacy of the Feliway® Classic diffuser on feline behaviour and wellbeing.

I took the survey, but the question about the age and sex of the cat was a bit difficult because it was not just for one cat and I was treating a couple of issues. It worked better with some of my cats than it did with others. I typically have the diffuser and three different sprays on hand. The diffuser is plugged in all the time, but I keep the sprays handy for emergencies.

Thank you for taking it. Yeah! I found that issue too with the survey but could find no way around it as I needed the data to be separated based on the response for each question. At first, I tried making it so multiple behaviours could be selected as that would have been ideal, but the survey became too complex for me to analyse and it required too many sections for my laptop to handle. For multiple cats, I made sure it can be completed more than once for those who wish to record a response for each cat. Thanks again for participating and for the feedback, it is really helpful :)

You are welcome. Since it can be completed more than once, I will try to go back in later today and do it for the other 11!

I do see your point with the difficulty of tweaking the survey. I did take it for one experience; if you need multiple answers I can continue to take it for all the cats who lived in the house at the time. Bottom line, a big "no" for it and I would not recommend it.

As I continue into higher education I hope to learn how to create surveys a bit better, learning how to tweak them so people can include everything they wish to. I would appreciate that, thank you and thanks for participating! 😁 i didn’t have much luck with either of my cats either so I was a thumbs down too! :(

There was a time when we had 13 rather than 12. My son took three when he bought a house, and we found two more. I think I did a survey for all of them. I should have written them down as I went! Haha!

awh that is very sweet 🥰. How do you get them all to get along? I would love to have that many cats one day but can’t even get my sister cats to get along (they’re scrapping now over a box, it’s nearly 2am!!)

They do not always get along, but we do not have any major fights. Just occasional hissing. Simon, our 17-year-old is cranky with six under the age of 12 months running around. Tara, who was found with Simon, was the most difficult because she stalked one of our other cats. We used clicker (snapping fingers, really) and positive reinforcement with her. It is how we have trained all of them. She rarely stalks now. All of them came from pretty rough conditions. Three of our youngest seem to have been part of a hoarding situation based on their behavior. They were terrified when I found them and slept in a heap in the litter box. Our vet and I agree that that paired with other behaviors suggest that they were kept in a small cage with other cats.

Our issue now is one of the other young ones. She went into heat because they canceled her spay appointment twice. She has become aggressive towards three particular cats (Fennimore, Tara, and Evangeline), although our vet put her on hemp oil and feline melatonin. There is an improvement, but I keep telling her that I cannot wait until they cut her uterus out in May!

Question: I used the feliway multicat, I believe (I'd have to check). Is that part of the survey or only the classic? I'll double check which one I used if only the classic.

haha Simon sounds like he is stuck in his elderly ways 😂. I knew clicker training worked with dogs, but never heard it being used for cats. I am going to try that with one of my cats as she stalks the other one relentlessly but then ends up being the one who gets jumped!! I’ve seen some RSPCA inspectors on TV save cats from hoarding situations and it’s so sad to see. I’m very glad to hear they have a happy life with you now!

Forgot all about vets stopping neutering/spaying operations! I couldn’t believe it, can understand the thought process but it’s definitely a necessary procedure!! There’s been a lot of escaping cats near me who weren’t able to be neutered and I dread the feral colonies that are going to need trapping for neutering. Poor Fennimore, Tara and Evangeline. At least they have cool names to smile about 😁

I had a quick google as I’ve never heard of that line of feliway and unfortunately, it looks like it uses the cat appeasing pheromone rather than the facial F3 pheromone that is in the classic one. Thank you for your interest though! :)

Where do you think?
I tried the one that is a spray to help Indy settle down in the car when we go on 3 hour drives up north but it had no effect.

Thank you! Their names (including middle names!) from oldest to youngest:
Simon Greystoke Thane, Her Royal Highness Princess Evangeline Evayne Snow the Benevolent Ruler of All, Tara Lenore Tierney, Astrid Cordelia Rose, Fennimore Strider Black, Freya Adelaide Prynne, Iris Eleanor Jane, Juniper Calanthe Rain, Jasper Lysander Stark, Cassian Pendragon Fox, Iroh Finnian Poe, and Xanthippe Cressida Frost.

My son took Estella Flannery Thyme, Willow Elisabeth Sage, and Silas Endeavour Book.

When you do the clicker training, say the cat's name to get their attention. If you do not distract them at first, walk over to them, click again, say their name, and then pet them or give them their favorite treat. Soon, the click will be enough to distract them. You will probably still have to pet them, but that is one reason we have cats! It is to the point that I just snap my fingers at Tara and then point next to me. She stops what she is doing and runs to me. Another thing I thought of: With Juniper, I distract her with a wand toy with bells or a laser pointer. Her desire to play is stronger than her aggression.

I've filled in the survey. I only filled it in once although I do cat rescue and currently have 21, at times as many as 26 cats in my house.. However, I think the male cat I had in mind when I filled in the survey is a pretty good representative of the cats I had in mind when I was looking for calming products.

I wonder if knowing a bit more about the cats' background would help your study? For example, most of my cats are former ferals, some of them were abandoned by their owners or lost their mothers at an early age. These factors will increase the amount of stress the cat feels, as well as affecting the behaviour we see because of this stress.

Also, multi-cat/multi-pet households are more likely to have stress triggers than single pet households. Would questions about the number of pets at home help in your survey?

i use the spray in graycies carrier befre her vet trips to try calming her vets used it to help calm her for nail trims but it doesnt seem to work no more it seems like she knows what the scent means in her carrier (vet trip) i know she isnt afraid of it and will go into it unless she scents feliway now at the vets she is on her last strike now vet also prescribed an oral med to sedate her for her next nail trim or we can do it ourselves :lol:times like this i really miss the use of my left hand an arm cause i know i could get her nails trimmed while she sleeps.

ahh that’s a shame it didn’t work. I tried that spray on my wrists when trying to socialise semi feral kittens. It didn’t work for us either, you can probably guess what happened to my poor hand! Have you found anything that helps to settle her?
